Sports Academy Excellence Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Stretton State College Sports Academy provides an opportunity for athletes in Years 4-12 to develop their skills and compete at a high level in Football, Rugby League and Volleyball. Students train for the duration of the year in their chosen sport and have the opportunity to participate in local, state and interstate competitions. Students in the Sports Academy also attend a sports excellence camp at the BLK Performance Centre at Runaway Bay. In 2019, the Sports Academy embarked on its inaugural International Tour where 18 Rugby League students and 3 staff travelled to Fiji with Petero Civoniceva's Fiji Tours. 


About the Sports Academy:

RUGBY LEAGUE

Students within the Rugby League program are given the opportunity to achieve academic success while developing the essential skills of the game, with pathways to compete in the elite Rugby League competitions across South East Queensland. The program also allows students to build essential life skills, encouraging participants to become an active part of their local community.

The program is offered to students in Years 4 - 12, catering for both boys and girls. Students in Year 7 - 12 have the opportunity to study rugby league as a subject, which aligns to the Health and Physical Education curriculum. Students of the program will walk away from the Rugby League Academy with a Certificate III in Fitness, Coaching, Refereeing and Touch Judge Qualifications.

The Rugby League Academy has 10 highly qualified coaching staff working with our Rugby League Academy students. Students in Year 7 – 12 will receive individualised Strength & Conditioning programs to work towards their goals as well as education around Sports Nutrition. Our senior Rugby League students will receive personalised nutrition plans, as well as strength programs to ensure they are provided with every opportunity to grow and succeed after their schooling years.

In the last couple of years the Rugby League Academy achieved unprecedented success across all teams with some of our highlights including: Karyn Murphy Cup State Champions (Open Girls), South East QLD Champions (Year 6 Boys), 3 out of boys teams qualifying for the Broncos Cup (Year 7, 9 & 10 Boys), Titans Cup Champions (Year 7/8, 9/10 Girls) and Struddys Cup Premiers (Year 8 Boys).



FOOTBALL

The Football Academy aims at providing students with unprecedented opportunities to learn, develop and refine their football skills and knowledge as they take the journey in becoming an elite athlete. To do so, we offer high level football coaching and targeted support for balancing academic, sporting and career goals.

We aim to help young players grow and develop their skills and understanding of the game and help each individual player reach their maximum potential, both on and off the field. Our coaching staff have extensive experience in youth development. In utilising their experience and passion for Football, our aim is to produce players of a high technical level, with strong tactical understanding and a love of the game.

The Football Academy celebrated an array of accolades. The open girls' team clinched triumphs at the Queensland Football School League, FQ Futsal State, and Australasian Futsal championships. As well as this, the academy achieved a milestone with an unprecedented number of Met West representatives in football and futsal. The academy also had three members proudly representing Queensland in the National Titles, marking an exceptional year of accomplishments and excellence.

Students are provided the opportunities to participate in a wide range of Football and Futsal tournaments throughout South East Queensland. High School students of the Football Academy have the opportunity to undertake Football as a subject which aligns with the Health and Physical Education curriculum.​


VOLLEYBALL

The Stretton SC Volleyball Academy is the premier Volleyball program stretching from Greater Brisbane South through the logan corridor and northern Gold Coast. The aim of the program to develop and grow passionate and successful volleyball players and provide them with opportunities to compete in Regional, State and National Competitions. The Academy caters for boys and girls from Year 4 – 12 and offers curriculum classes for our High School students. At Stretton SC we are extremely pleased to offer such high-level coaches of a Regional and State level.

Through our training we integrate weekly Strength and Conditioning sessions alongside rigorous volleyball training, empowering students to excel in all facets of the game. Not only will students thrive on the court, students will also be supported through their academic studies and ensure they are set up for a successful future.

With a proud history of success, including podium finishes at prestigious events like the Queensland Volleyball Schools Cup and the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, Stretton State College consistently ranks among the elite in school volleyball. In 2023, our Year 9 Girls secured Gold, while our Year 8 Boys and Year 7 Girls demonstrated their prowess with top finishes on the national stage.

Our commitment to excellence is evident in our teams' consistent presence in Division 1 and Honours competitions, showcasing the unwavering dedication of our athletes and their families.​


Sports Academy Application Process

​Selection Procedure

Each year, all students wishing to be part of the Sports Academy are required to submit an application and complete a trial for their respective sport. A requirement of the application process is to provide a copy of the applicant's most recent Academic report cards. Academic achievement, behaviour and effort results, which will be taken into consideration when selections are made.
