Stretton State College offers an extensive instrumental music program and where students have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument from an instrumental music specialist. Through group tuition students have the opportunity to learn a woodwind, brass, percussion or string instrument. A range of performing ensembles allow students to rehearse and perform in a large group, which caters for student abilities and interests.

Lessons and Rehearsals
All instrumental music students at Stretton State College receive instrumental music lesson with a specialist teacher. Timetables are provided to students and parents each term and where students cannot attend their lesson, students may negotiate with their instrumental teacher to reschedule their lesson time.
Students at Stretton State College also have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in one of the schools many large and small ensemble.
Instrumental Music Recruitment
Each year, students in year 3 have the opportunity to be selected for the instrumental music program. As well as being incredibly fun, learning to play an instrument helps educate the whole child.
Year 3 students in 2023 will have the opportunity to apply for the instrumental music program for 2024. Information will be provided via email and also via the SSC website.

Please understand, should you choose to accept an offer to join the Instrumental Music Program we require unconditional commitment (as outlined in the IM Handbook) in the following areas:
- Minimum of 2 years of participation (Year 4 & 5)
- Group lessons in school time
- Ensemble rehearsal before school each week
- Music levy payment
- Instrument hire payment (for those students hiring an instrument)
- Home practice on a regular basis each week
- Attendance at ALL performances
- Remembering ALL musical equipment each week

Performance Uniform
Stretton State College has a designated performance uniform for all instrumental music students. This performance uniform can be purchased at the Stretton State College uniform shop, which is situated on the Illaweena Campus.
