The Australian Curriculum across Years 7 - 10 assists students to develop their ability to take positive action for well-being; relate and communicate well with others; pose questions and solve problems; make informed decisions and act responsibly. It engages students more purposefully with the discipline knowledge, understanding and skills of the eight learning areas of the Australian Curriculum.
Stretton State College has implemented the Australian Curriculum in the learning areas of English, maths, science and humanities. As well as an emphasis on these areas, students study a wide variety of other learning areas through elective subjects. These include:
- Health and physical education
- Technology - design technology and digital technology
- Languages (Italian)
- The Arts - music, drama, media and visual art
Information communication technology (ICTs) are utilised within all learning areas.
Subject Selections
Students in year 10 have the opportunity to choose a number of elective subjects. Elective subjects allow students to not only choose subjects that are of interest them, but also to choose subjects that are relevent to their course of study in year 11 and 12.
Choosing subjects in year 10 is also an important part of career planning for all students, as certain university and/or tertiary courses have required pre-requisites.

Set Plan (year 10)
In year 10, students undertake a Set Plan process to assist them choose the correct subjects in year 11 and 12 and caters for pathways be it further tertiary study or employment.
